Live install image and PCMCIA CD drive

#1 Post by sega dude »

I downloaded a "Live install image" to use on an old Pentium III laptop. I downloaded "debian-live-8.4.0-i386-standard.iso". I am not interested in installing Debian on this machine, I just need to use dmidecode to get some information. So I went with the live cd. The computer does not have an internal CD drive, so I have to use the PCMCIA CD drive it came with. My problem is, after booting from the live CD and selecting the live option, it seems that the PCMCIA CD drive is no longer detected. Because of this, I am unable to boot into the live system. Is there something I can do so that the PCMCIA CD drive will be recognized so that I can boot into the live system? Any help would be great.

I wonder if debian-live-8.4.0-i386-standard.iso does not have driver necessary for PCMCIA CD drive.
Does your laptop have USB port? If yes, use an USB thumb instead.
Can you change the behavior of PCMCIA CD in BIOS setting?
Furthermore, live image with nonfree firmware may help. You can get it at http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unoff ... so-hybrid/ (for 8.4.0 live. for i386 architecture).
