Invariably, when I boot my otherwise fine functioning jessie xfce desktop on my netbook, when it shows the list of services starting up and the results, the first one, about the snmp subagent, always fails, yet the rest are fine. Is this an important piece to be concerned about as a home user, or should I just let it ride?
As always, thanks in advance!

Simple Network Management Protocol. On a laptop not connected to a network, it is probably not needed, so i would ignore the error message. Its probably not loading. If it is loading you can disable it with the above link, or remove it with synaptic (snmpd.
Even on networked systems it is typically not needed. it is for monitoring networks mostly.
