Hey all,
I was trying to do this all myself but before I break something but constantly hard rebooting, I thought I'd come ask the community a question.
I'm very new to linux - though not computers. So through trial and error, I've gone through the install (loading non-free firmware, for wifi, gfx card, etc.. whew!). I've replaced keyboards and mice back to standards as I'm using a blank HD and I'm sure there are no viable drivers in place for Razer at this point - also was failing to produce a GRUB initiation.
So I've come to the point for my first boot. and it simply boots into a black screen. I did some research and read about entering a "nomodeset" into the GRUB settings.
When I boot, and press SHIFT, I get the message "GRUB is loading..." but then goes right into the debian GNU.
Is there some sort of finesse I'm missing here?
EDIT: I am using two monitors if that is causing any issues?
Thanks in advance,
AA

Re: First time linux install / Stuck at black screen/GRUB
I was installing:
Debian GNU/Linux 8.7.1 "Jessie" - Official amd64 kde-CD Binary-1
on a machine with a Radeon 7570.
I basically just replaced the HD in the PC i currently use with a blank 1TB HD.

Awesome, thanks!
I'll have a look after work tomorrow and go from there... it's still a lot of fun.
