I installed Nemo and Thunar file managers but when i search for them in the gnome dashboard they do not appear with their names and icons but instead as 'Files' and 'File Manager'. And another file manager that i installed - Konqueror, doesn't appear at all.
Why is that? Using Debain 8.7.

To clarify: you're using Gnome3 with Debian Jessie, yes? I can confirm that Nemo does show as Files & File Manager Preferences, and Thunar appears too. I didn't try Konqueror.

I created .desktop files in .local/share/applications and now the applications appear in the search.
