{SOLVED} Can't find Multimedia Software for Debian

#1 Post by Ezingers »

What is the best video converter the will convert MP3 to VOB, DVD authoring tools and CD/DVD case and disk designer for Debian 8. I haven't really looked for a DVD authoring tool or a disk designer online yet. But I have looked for the video converter. Most of them are for Windows, there's a lot for Mac's, but very few for Linux. Does anybody know of these kinds of software for Debian?

Which of the video tools available have you already evaluated and rejected?

MP3 isn't video. Did you mean MP4?

I think you meant MP4 to VOB?

DeVeDe offers a good video convertor and a simplistic DVD authoring interface. In the past, I've used it to convert various video formats to the DVD-compliant mpeg format, and then imported the converted mpeg into DVD Styler for the DVD authoring. Some other people use DVD Styler's built-in conversion, or use Avidemux, ffmpeg, or mencoder for that--there's many choices.

I have up-to-date Avidemux and DVD Styler packages in my personal jessie-backports multimedia repo: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=127574

It may also be possible to run your favorite Windows DVD authoring program in Linux, using Wine. Results can vary.

For converting formats I always use ffmpeg, it has a ton of options and is pretty quick (depending on required quality). I use it on command-line, but I'm sure there's a GUI for it too but can't remember the package off hand.

+1

If you just want to create the VOB files, ffmpeg can do that. If you want to create a DVD with them, you'll need something else like DeVeDe, as stevepusser has already mentioned.

There seem to be very many, and oddly enough , when I did a search , nothing for
Windows or Mac showed,... I guess that means there are very few, for those other OS's.
