can mount hdd if sata cable, not if usb cable

A sata hdd drive is device truecrypt encrypted.
If I connect it via sata to a desktop computer and start truecrypt and select device and mount it, files on the sata hdd display in nautilus and are accessible.

If I on the same computer connect the sata hdd via an usb adapter, the sata hdd will not display in truecrypt's device list and cannot be mounted. I have tested with 3 different usb adapters. Noone works.

On the desktop computer it does not matter, that the usb connection does not work, because the sata connection is available. On another notebook computer, there is no sata connection option and the usb adapter option does not work.

How do I get the usb cable connection to work about the sata hdd?

If I start gparted, the sata hdd will display as device sdb, also when connected via usb adapter.

will not display the sata hdd.
I know no command that will mount the sata hdd.

Are you sure your USB adapter is ok? Also, is the USB port USB 1.1 or 2 or 3? Maybe the drive isn't getting enough power.

EDIT: Is it a 2.5" HDD or 3.5"?
