Foxit reader in Stretch?

#1 Post by Lysander »

Has anyone used Foxit in Stretch? I'm considering upgrading and it's the very best software I've come across so far for PDF annotations. It's not in the Jessie repos but works solidly on it.

are you implying it is going to be in debian 9 repos?
i highly doubt it. can't find the source code anywhere. i think it's closed source, freemiumware.

personally, i never understand people's fascination with pdf. i would never choose it as a document format, and for reading i'm quite happy with linux native existing solutions.
editing - should i ever need that - can be done via libreoffice.

No. Just if it would work OK and not break anything.

Unfortunately the academic community relies, to a large extent, on the PDF format. Especially for distributing photocopies.

I haven't tried it - does it work OK in Debian? Their site says Cent/Ubuntu. I'm not sure that every piece of software that works on Ubuntu works on Debian?

It works great in Jessie; I leave it to you to test it in Stretch. Use gdebi to make installing the deb easier.

Installed and it works great in D9. The best alternative I've found to Adobe. There was another decent one, I can't remember the name now, but I think it was qpdfview.
