Hello,
It is very easy to share files in my ~/Public/ folder by enabling Gnomes Personal File Sharing as described at https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-user ... ed.html.en. At least it works between two Debian PCs.
However, I would like to share another folder. But I cannot find a way to add any other folder outside ~/Public/. If possible, how do I do that?
There are several ways to share files between Linux computers on a local network. If I understand correctly, some of them are
- Samba share
- NFS
- WebDAV
And Gnome uses WebDAV. Are folders shared with this method also supposed to works with MS Windows (7)? Nothing mentioned about it in the wiki I think.
Or should I try setup samba shares instead? The forest of howto:s, guides and "this worked for me" for samba shares just keeps me back a bit... But maybe isn't too hard.
Best Regards
Markus

Gnome "Personal File Sharing" with other than ~/Public/
Re: Gnome "Personal File Sharing" with other than ~/Public/
I think I got something working at last. I went for sharing using Samba. Not to hard? Well... I wish. Took me about 1,5 day to get every piece in place
I love Linux most of the time. But this kind exercise does make you hesitate before recommending it to many people.
Hope that one day there will be an easy way. The amount of blogs, wikis, manuals, forums seem to indicate it is often not "simple".
But now it works, jippiee
Cheers
