hi, can I install Debian in HP ProLiant ML370 G6 Tower Server? is debian compatible with this server? In general, can i install debian in any type of server? And 1 more thing, which RAID is the best? thanks.

because it says in the server specs that the supported OS are the ff:

Select > HP , and it shows what is listed as supported. That exact model
is not listed, so you will probably just have to try it.

I have had good results with Debian on various other HP pc, laptops,
but there are a lot of things to consider with a server, also my experience is
with the older versions of Debian, 6 & 7.
If this is going to be a production server, I would use one of the supported
OS's, ( except the MS windows)

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES)
Oracle Solaris
VMware
HP Citrix Essentials for XenServer

This is important, in case there are up dates, etc, HP does offer very good support , for the supported systems.
If it is just something you are doing for "home" , personal use, and you want to experiment with Debian, there probably would not be any problem installing Debian, or nothing major, you could also add to the :

And share how it goes with others.
I have found that HP is still pretty good about trying to help resolve issues,
even when the OS is not in the "officially supported" list.
It is not that big of a deal, to just try installing Debian, if everything goes smoothly, and seems to work fine, then great,... if not and it looks like it will
be to many problems, well no big deal , just install one of the supported ones, or something else over it.

Those are distros that HP officially supports for the device. That has no bearing on whether Debian will run just as well on the machine, just that HP won't help you if you run into any problems. I suspect that Debian will be just fine on it..try a Live session to check first. Debian can generally be installed on all manner of servers; of course, a stable release is the correct choice for this application of the OS.

Hardware RAIDS are better than software ones.

Looks like you will may need an installer ISO with the non-free firmware, any web search will turn that up easily.

I am about to install the debian 9 stable release but I have a ff questions;

1. Do I need to set up first the RAID of my server in BIOS before installation? or i will run the installer directly and simply follow the steps?
2 I have 8 harddisk drive slot but I have only 6 physically available, 2 are missing and not available. What is the best and advisable RAID to be used; 1,0,6, or 10?
3. I am confuse with the LVM and RAID?
