Debian 9 wi-fi card problem(problem with ipw2200)

Postby hdc0 » 2017-10-20 15:43

Hello all, newbie here..

Recently I've decided to install Debian 9.2.1 32bit on an old HP Compaq nx6110.. Things went smooth but I ignored the ipw2200 firmware thing during the initial setup.
Now because I was on ethernet for some time, I ignored this entire wireless thing. But now it's become pretty complicated, and I attempted many google searches and searched here as well. I attempted some solutions, but none worked.
By the way, my access to ethernet now is limited, however I do have wireless internet on my android tablet, and a usb cable.. So I can transfer files between the 2 devices.

Soo...

You have added the non-free repository.
You have added the firmware.
You have rebooted.
You have tried to configure the relevant app...

Sorry, I was in a kind of hurry when I was typing the topic..
Yes, as of now, I have added the non-free repo,
I added the firmware(s), located in /lib/firmware
I rebooted, and well.. wicd was already installed.
So now when i push the wireless button the wireless light goes blue, and that's it, it just goes blue. When I re-push it, it just stops going blue.
wicd just doesn't get affected from the wireless button.

Does that mean you properly installed it from Repository?

Have you tried other wifi managers e.g. NetworkManager or Ceni?

Have you tried raising wifi from the command line? E.g. https://www.blackmoreops.com/2014/09/18 ... -in-linux/

As far as I read on the topics given it's a problem of firmware, you need to try something else
And try to connect to another network, another router
