Hello Head on a Stick

thanks for your post!, but if i understand rsync correct, this will copy the Data 1:1 from A->B but i think i need also
any oportunities to compress this files, than this files are "thin provisioned" and has a lot of air inside.

so for Example if my Image file has a size from 250Gb but only 20 % are used, rsync will copy the hole 250Gb.
its possible to do any compression like.

Code: Select all

-z, --compress compress file data during the transfer
--compress-level=NUM explicitly set compression level
if i understand this correct, this are only any compression rate about the transfer.

or exist here any addidtional help with tar, gzip, to compress this to any possible image.
rsync -syntax sourcefiles destinationfile | tar -c | for exampe to gz or iso
Btw, how did you lose your original question?
please from witch original question ask me?

Thanks for your answer, i will appreciate any help!
regards
M

I entered the term "rsync backup with compression" into the search box at https://www.startpage.com/ and this link was top of the list:

My second comment was meant as a joke, please ignore it.
