all drives spinup on save?

#1 Post by ccfn »

Hey all, newbie here. I am planning a Debian/linux fileserver. I am curious to know if Debian spins up all drives whenever a save dialog opens. I am a mac user and I find this really annoying. Plus it increases wear for no useful purpose. It takes a long time to spin up every attached drive even if I am saving something to the desktop and already have the desktop showing within the dialog box. Thanks for your help,

no, but i don't understand why there would be a save dialog on a fileserver? i spin my drives down, and they don't spin up unless I try to read or write. Some commands like fdisk -l can spin them all up.
