Desktop Enviroment choice

Postby bit » 2018-02-27 12:17

Hi, I want to install debian on my laptop, so for battery life and resource usage i decided to go with xfce or lxde.
My use of the laptop is basic usage (web browsing, mailing, ecc) and programming (multi-monitor support needed).
Which of the two desktops mentioned do you think as best suited for me, why?

Thanks for the help.

Of those two, XFCE is IMO better. It's resource friendly, just like LXDE.

If you have a tad better laptop, I recommend MATE.

The one YOU like, because YOU like it?

Have a look at https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/best-lean ... e-vs-mate/

Why don't you test out both and report your findings?

Like, you prefer the desktop environment, or you're an actual gnome and forgot the hyphen?

Also, I think gnome has a fallback shell for stable performance on older equipment, so OP could try that one too.

Well good, someone has to scare off the neighborhood cats from the Poinsettia garden.

It is pointless to ask, because *you* are the expert of your own needs. Test a few desktop environments, and then pick the one you like best.

More like "systemdon't-you-dare-dig-up-my-poinsettia-garden-stupid-cats"

on-topic: my vote is for a pure openbox-session with xfce4-power-manager and cpufrequtils adjustments.

Thx, It's saved. I might use it on my birthday.

On-topic: I think it's settled, try everything and decide for yourself. As you can see, we all have our preferences.
