If you have a tad better laptop, I recommend MATE.
Of those which has a better multi-monitor setup ?
Why don't you test out both and report your findings?
I asked which has a better multi-monitor support because for me is impossible to try 3 desktop enviroments (cause a very bad internet connection), so which as a better multi-monitor support (useful also for my powerpoint presentations)?

I've never had an issue with xfce monitor support -- except for driver issues, which would affect you regardless of your desktop environment. So, the better question might be, how compatible is your driver with the version of X you intend to run? Then again, you'll never known until you try.

lspci -vv can help you run in the right direction.

XFCE has supported multi-monitor natively since 4.11 (I think) so the version in Debian stretch (4.12) should be fine.

LXDE relies on arandr for display management, which isn't quite as slick as XFCE's solution.

A few weeks ago I installed almost every common desktop environment in a virtual machine in my constant battle to get away from MATE (I don't have a slow internet connection :D ). LXDE is probably going to be my choice if/when I ever manage in making the switch. Honestly the only reason I use MATE is because I was using gnome since like 2006 and I'm stuck in my way. MATE has some obnoxious bugs and annoyances, I wouldn't suggest switching to it if you have a better choice.

nah, i'm done with all that forever.
i know, there's the argument of wanting to concentrate on what's important (esp. if you're an IT professional), but anyone who's using their system for more than a few hours a day, for years on end, should realise that investing some time in setting up things your own way, pays back hundredfold.

1: no more obnoxious DE bugs (often called features) to fix & iron out
2: no more trying to adapt something to your own needs that someone else created, assuming to know what your needs are
3: and, most of all: knowledge of your own system (or DE in this case), making so many things easier in the long run
