Try to install KDE on Debian 9.3 Cinnamon - apt-get (100)

#1 Post by Hadi_Setayeshgar »

Hi There

I'm newbie to Linux world , I'm trying to install KDE ( on Debian 9.3 Cinnamon ) and get error :

tasksel : apt-get failed (100)

I searched in Google and found Debian forums had some threads for that . I'd added backports and sloppy backports to aptitude configurations , I removed them ( as suggested by Moderator ) . Also the moderator wrote synaptic package manager must fix broken packages , I tried but it warns me : libreoffice-5.2.3 tries to overwrite soffice by openoffice-4.1.5

I removed and purged LibreOffice after installation of Debian ( as You know some distros force using LibreOffice and don't allow to install OpenOffice ) I need OpenOffice for working on Persian documents ( Libre is so so buggy in handling of Persian texts , OpenOffice works so far better )

Is there a way I keep my OpenOffice and install KDE in Debian ?

Thanks a lot

One possibility would be to install it from here after installing KDE, since I can't see it in the stretch repositories: http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html

I can't see a native Persian version, though.

Thanks a lot

Can I reinstall OpenOffice ( both in Cinnamon and KDE ) ?

What should I do ? Should I uninstall OpenOffice ? Should I overwrite libreoffice on openoffice in soffice file by my own ? Would it rise a trouble ?

Thank You , again

Well, reinstalling OpenOffice should work, no matter what desktop environment you are using.

I guess there is a small risk that you'll have trouble making it work, but then again you can probably install OpenOffice from the same archive you once retrieved it.

If it was me, I would:
1. Remove OpenOffice
2. Run apt update && tasksel install kde-desktop
3. Download the OpenOffice.gz file from the link above, unpack it into a directory. Then open a terminal and cd into that directory. Finally (as root): dpkg -i *.deb

It was horrific ! I don't know why some distributors stick LibreOffice to OS . But I removed OpenOffice and fixed LibreOffice successfully

But now I can't get KDE !

This my Terminal log when I try to install KDE :

I thought it was correct. Just try tasksel and select KDE in the menu, then.

I wasn't sure and didn't write , Debian Desktop Environment , Cinnamon , KDE and laptop are marked ( I think KDE is installed )

But it doesn't switch , I even log out and log in , But it doesn't show any DE selection options , Let's restart once and see if it's available or not

Thank You a lot

I will write here the result

Hello Sir

Thank You , Again

I tested last night and installed some themes on KDE this morning and changed some features . It's not so beautiful yet , some days is needed for tweaking well and make it great

But this is my Cinnamon desktop , It's beautiful , No ?

http://uupload.ir/files/7esh_screenshot ... -16-29.png

BTW , sorry for taking Your time . Do You know how can I add appimage applications to Cairo Dock ?

I add Otter Browser to it manually , But when I click on it Robots opens ! ( it's GNOME game ) Same goes for Krita , When I click on it OpenOffice opens !!
It doesn't allow to add appimages and I create a New Item and insert the appimage address as command , But it still don't accept and doesn't work properly

Cairo is more beautiful and elegant than others , I don't like the rest

I apologize again for taking Your time

Thanks

Yes, your cinnamon desktop looks good.

The only time I have used the cairo dock was about the minute it took me to remove it from XFCE a few years ago. I never liked it, so I can't help you, I'm afraid.
