[SOLVED] Debian really buggy on my notebook

#1 Post by ToCox »

Hello everyone!

Sorry to bother you, but after days of research I personally have not found any help from Wiki, Guides or forums.

The problem is: my debian system is really buggy. For example, it crushes everytime I suspend the system on RAM. But other bug are possible, even in the middle of an activity, suchs as writing in LibreOffice or browsing on Internet. And when it happens, I can wait hours and the only solution is reboot the system.

I don't understand the problem: I've tried Gnome, KDE and xfce on the same machine and problems come out everytime the exact day I install an operating system.

My machine is a ASUS p253ouj-XO0103E, with an Intel core i7-6500u (2.5 ghz), 8gb of RAM, nvidia geforce gt 920m.
My operating system is Debian 9.4 stretch, installed via Network install (to be honest, even a full installation from cd didn't work).
I added the contrib and non-free part to the source-list because of my wireless board.

I'm thinking of a cpu's firmware problem, or something like that. Unfortunately I'm not such a computer expert to understand it all by my own.

Hope not to get something wrong (except my English) about forum's guidelines.

You have an Optimus system:
https://wiki.debian.org/Bumblebee#Bumblebee_Project
You will also need intel-microcode and firmware-misc-nonfree package, since that is Skylake processor.

Code: Select all

apt install firmware-misc-nonfree intel-microcode
Set up Bumblebee as explained in the wiki, install the firmware and post the progress.

I'm sorry, it's partly in Italian (and that also explains my bad English knowledge).
I believe the microcode is installed, even if I think I have to take information from here (http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=72645) about the possible missing firmware.

System seems to go well right now, I'll test it out among these days. Thank you very much for your time and suggestions.
