ASUS network driver

#1 Post by juliolop »

hi everyone
I'm new with Debian and after a successful installation in one of my little ASUS laptops, the second one has been impossible, specifically the model TP200SA
the installation process start with no problems until the step to recognize the network adapter,
after contacted ASUS and chatted with one of their representative, he said he can not help me.
can anybody help me with it?
any suggestion?
thanks

Otherwise see https://wiki.debian.org/HowToIdentifyADevice/PCI & https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Main_Page

The ASUS guy won't know a thing about Linux or anything that's not in their scripts. Usually we can help get it running if we know what the device in it is.

In the USA at least, laptops are required to have a sticker on the bottom or in the battery compartment that has the FCC ID of any wireless devices they have. Is there anything like that on your Asus?

This thread https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2328318 and other success stories elsewhere would indicate that the driver's already in the kernel, so for Debian you just need to add the non-free firmware for Atheros devices: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/firmware-atheros

Which can be directly downloaded from that page and installed with "dpkg -i".

Here you go: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Qualcomm_Atheros_QCNFA435

You just need to install firmware-atheros.

Then your choice is to use a Debian installer ISO that already includes the non-free firmware:
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unof ... -firmware/

The live version can run as a Live session without installing, but I would recommend the standard one for installing.
