If I right click on the desk top no menu of options display?
If you right click should not a menu of options display?

If I open nautilus and go to desktop and
right click then a menu of options display.

Are you sure it's Nautilus? Mate uses Caja file manager.

You set nautilus in
system -> control center -> preferred applications
Or open nautilus in
applications -> accessories -> files

That's not Nautilus in Mate, it's Caja, unless you have multiple DEs installed.
Click Help menu > About in any files window.
Why use Nautilus for Mate? Caja IS Nautilus forked for Mate.
