How to replace gstreamer plugin by own build?

Postby diracsbracket » 2019-01-24 13:34

I am on Debian 9.5 which has GStreamer 1.10.4 installed.
Due to a bug in the gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad module, I want to replace it with a patched version built from source.

However, if I try to uninstall that package via e.g. Synaptic, it says that it can only proceed if I also
mark various other packages for removal, among which several related to gnome and others.

How can I perform the uninstall that module without removing all these necessary pacakges?

(PS: I uploaded an image in attach, but the attachment is not appearing?)

Some multimedia related package you have installed is attaching the dependency. Find it, and remove it , if it does so simply, then gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad may orphan, then purge it. Then try to reinstall that parent package without allowing that plugin,, and with your modded package when you get to that point.

Review the list of things it would like to remove, *it* is one of those...
