[RESOLVED] Terminal app that allows copy, cut paste?

Postby JeSuisFlaneur » 2019-09-02 20:48

After 48 hours of Buster's reinstall. AH! My first Debian install, I'm looking for a terminal (like Ubuntu's Gnome Terminal) that allows copy cut paste commands.

Are there any?

mlterm goes crazy when I try CTRL X or CTRL-SHIFT X, for cut

xterm confuses me -- it's all black? is that configurable? Copy cut paste there?

(yes I read the manuals, if I had a clue I wouldn't be here asking -- mlterm converts utf-8 to bla bla blah)

I wouldn't touch Gnome with a 10 foot pole. I ain't lying. I'm sick of that puppie.

There could be two options that work with most terminals, using Shift+Ctrl+C might do the job (and Shift+Ctrl+V for paste), or you could highlight the text with mouse and right click and select copy, and also right click to select paste, and Shift+Insert might work for paste.
These all work with Xfce terminal for me.

EDIT: Cut is unlikely to have any effect in a terminal so copy/paste would be the only options.

Most do allow copy/paste, or even drag and drop. Try xfce-terminal for a light one, terminology for an interesting one.
The MX Linux repositories: Backports galore! If we don't have something, just ask and we'll try--we like challenges. New packages: Calibre 3.48.0, QMPlay2 19.09.03, wine-staging 4.16, Telegram-desktop 1.8.8, Pale Moon 28.7.1, Waterfox 56.2.14

I think the problem was OP trying to cut in terminal rather than copy.
