Look at https://www.linux.com/tutorials/how-ins ... -or-sound/

Alternatively, you could have used the unofficial disk which includes the firmware https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unof ... -firmware/

you may want to try this:
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unof ... -firmware/

i realize that many people on the forums do not like the non-free debian but when you know very little as i do it has helped me to get stuff working and the main aspect is Running Debian. i am still running 9 stretch lxde but will soon load buster 10 lxqt. hope this helps.

i hope this is not out of line being a debian forum but a really super debian based distro i just moved to in addition to running debian 9 is MX 18. runs nice and looks really nice for XFCE. never been a fan of xfce but theu did a superb job on it. you may have better luck with the wife. try live cd/dvd and check it out.

hope these offer possible solutions for you. i run debian on an old macbook in my shed/work/outbuilding. has most of the files and apps i run in the house and office. planning on loading debian 10 when i can get the time. busy on the homestead.

Hi, Abbe,

I think that you just need to install the wl driver to get your WiFi working. The Debian Wiki has clear, step-by-step instructions:

https://wiki.debian.org/wl
"Broadcom BCM4311, BCM4312, BCM4313, BCM4321, BCM4322, BCM43224, BCM43225, BCM43227, BCM43228, BCM43142, BCM4331, BCM4352, BCM4360 devices (wl)."

HTH. :)
