How do I migrate from virtualbox to libvirt?

Postby kerryhall » 2020-04-25 21:20

I recently upgraded to Debian 10. It looks like virtualbox is no longer supported.

I tested out libvirt + virt-manager and it looks great!

However, how do you migrate from virtualbox to libvirt?

Everything I have read says you must convert the disk via "VBoxManage" command, but how can I run that command if virtualbox is no longer supported?

The qemu-img command can convert virtualbox disks: https://docs.openstack.org/image-guide/ ... mages.html

Or you can install virtualbox directly from Oracle but I really would recommend only using it for the conversion, QEMU is a superior solution.

Debian removed VB for good reason: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=794466

Thank you! I will use the qemu-img command!

And will certainly not be returning to virtualbox.
