Change wallpaper in debian 11
Hi folks I have installed debian 11 RC1. Thank you very much for this version. Only when I want to change the background the computer freezes black screen with blinking cursor. When I force shut down and restart I get the black screen again. I have now reinstalled debian 11 5.10.0-7 version
Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) I would like to report this and is there a workaround to roll it back.
Kind regards Sjaak

Re: Change wallpaper in debian 11
What desktop are you using?
I wonder if you need firmware-amd-graphics?
What is the output of these commands?
https://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/errata
That's just an outright guess, but the information will still be useful.
Edit: amended commands to show root necessary for dmesg.

sjaak@debian:~$ su -
Wachtwoord:
root@debian:~# lspci | grep ' VGA '
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
root@debian:~# dmesg | grep firmware
root@debian:~#
use gnome. I hope this is of some use to you. Maybe I have an old computer was vista 32 bits

Re: Change wallpaper in debian 11
Well it's not an AMD graphics issue then.
Where are you at now? do you have the Gnome desktop now you have reinstalled?

Re: Change wallpaper in debian 11
No I didn't change anything. I chose the default option during installation [gnome]
Re: Change wallpaper in debian 11
Stock Debian probably doesn't contain the necessary drivers and firmware for your specific video card.
Download and use the non-free image including firmware: http://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimag ... rent-live/
This is for Stable. If you want Testing: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unoff ... so-hybrid/

dmesg | grep firmware
I am quite surprised to see the null output. I suppose it is possible to have a system that doesn't need any firmware.

Re: Change wallpaper in debian 11
Dear people
I went back to debian 10.9 here everything works fine. Apparently my computer is too old for such a modern program. Thanks for all the comments. Another small question I have now installed chromium instead of google chrome. Chromium is a bit behind with the version, isn't it regularly updated?
