Cloned copied system no keyboard mouse [solved]

Postby tawan » 2009-12-07 13:11

I used rsync to copy my system (minus these*) on sda2 to a blank and similar sized sda3. I adjusted fstab and grub2

the copied system boots but when I meet the desktop the mouse is frozen to the middle and the keyboard does not work.

all looks well, conky is even working and showing the right info.

any ideas on why the mouse and keyboard are failing?

PS it is Sid/Squeeze and Openbox

* (what I did not copy but did make new empty DIRs for.
/cdrom
/dev
/lost+found
/media
/mnt
/proc
/sys
/tmp

It looks like, you copied a working and already mounted root of system as it is. That may the reason that you are finding proc sys etc. populated.
Instead of that do the following.
* Boot your computer using any rescue/boot disc.
* Mount both sda2 and sda3.
* Now copy all of the contets of sda2 to sda3, make necessary corrections for fstab and grub.
You may not need to avoid copying proc, sys etc. because they should be empty directories.
