Connection to pop.gmail.com:995 timed out. /clawsmail

#1 Post by nadir »

mh, i am trying since a few hours to set up my gmail account in claws-mail and getting the error-message from above.
i followed the online-help step by step, changed it here and there and what not.
http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/1520/gmail.png

So: i know there is a difference between the german and the international account (one is user@googlemail.com, the other is user@gmail.com). The help tells me to use user@gmail.com, but i tried both.

The other thing which are confusing is -> advanced the smtp and pop ports
and the use of SSL.

I set up two other accounts without any problems.
Are there known issues for clawsmail and gmail or is google just evil?
thanks.

looks like that might be a term to search for (with yahoo, thats for sure  )
*** Required APOP timestamp not found in greeting
*** Error occurred while processing mail.

Make sure the online google mail setting are set up :D

A quick look at my claws preferences show

Under Basic
pop.gmail.com
smtp.gmail.com

Under SSL
use ssl for pop3 connection
use ssl for SMTP connection

Under advanced
tick SMTP port 465
tick pop3 port 995

Do you have the rss plugin? I get that error is if an rss feed goes bad.

This is for sylpheed but I used it for my claws setup.

well: still alive :-)
it connected, but i could not say how. its completely different than in the documentation (which is, btw, for thunderbird, but the claws-mail faq refers to it too.)
i will check for the link you gave...

OMG...

ok, after i was finally able to download messages from gmail the next trouble arouse when i wanted to sent a message (with any of the three accounts).
unable to queue message to draft
To make it short:
its the lenny claws-mail (which version ever), i logged into sid, all the entries are or seem to be the same and voila: null problemo.

another weird thing is that a directory in my home is getting created, and it looks like my default email address, say:

Code: Select all

/home/markus/username@web.de
i deleted it and after opening claws-mail it was recreated.

i searched the web, i searched the docu, i havent searched the bugs yet, and i am clueless what might be the problem.

OMG

In your Gmail settings under Receive, is Use secure authentication (APOP) checked or unchecked? It should not be checked.

that has been one of the problems when trying to download messages. i disabled it and (with doing some other things) finally could download.
as said: now i can`t write mail and with none of the accounts.
thanks

mh, when i installed the backports-kernel i got a message bout firmware missing (e100...etc). i did install it in the installation before, but as i can`t find it anymore didn`t install it (yet) again.
might that be the problem?

mh,clawsmail (3.5) created two directories in my home:
Mail and username_at_web.de
in Mail i found: draft - inbox - queue - sent - trash
in username_at_web.de i found: draft- inbox - sent
i created queue and trash there, and now it works (nother wasted day :-) )
very odd behaviour.

if one knows how to convince it to make use of Mail,...

edit:
i also had to make sure that under:
SSL in the configuration dialogue SSL is enabled, for both POP and SMTP.
for none of my other accounts this is necessary.
