Here is my source list:
[code
#deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.3 _Lenny_ - Official i386 kde-CD Binary-1 20090905-09:27]/ lenny main
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free

deb http://www.backports.org/debian lenny-backports main contrib non-free
deb-src http://www.backports.org/debian lenny-backports main contrib non-free
[/code]
The first part of this set-up is from:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=47683 and I give mdevour credit for setting me up with the primary source list. I added the lenny-backports package from a little research.
Debian was not setting this up properly from the live CD so every time I do a build, my #1 thing to do on post install is set this up. So, this works. Once this is installed I can add adobe flash, chrome, java, hplip, and a whole lot of other things like VB guest additions.
Does any one have anything to add to this?

If you mean your sources.list, many include Debian multimedia repository for, uh, multimedia and stuff.
Code: Select all
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ lenny main

Q: Why is the Eunux kernel so bloated?
A: It was made in the image of its founder.

Hey Jeff, good going.
Search for info on how to check an md5sum hash to make sure the iso is good. Burn the disk at a lower speed, e.g. 2x or 4x rather than 24x. I assume there's some command to verify the burn after. All it'd take is a bad sector here and there to make things screwy. And a Debian Stable installer that doesn't set up a proper default sources.list is screwy.
Hosting a VM on Windows 7, eh? Kids these days... <shakes head>

That's a good idea. We should have thought of that in your other thread.llivv wrote:burn a new CD

You did download your iso from debian.org or one of its mirrors, right?this time find a "Real Debian" installation CD

Re: New Build
Yes, I did get the CD right off of Debian. I saved the iso to my computer and link straight to that for the VB iso . I also burned a CD for my older desktop. It has the same source list on post install.
Pretty weird, but not impossible to overcome.

The cool thing about Chrome is, although it is not in the source list, it does update when ever I do updates. I'm so new, this goes right over my head.

llivv,
Thanks for looking into that. Have you had your Starbucks yet?
W7 works great on my Intel board with F6 Intel Software Raid by the way.
hplip did see my printer with zero problems. Works great. haven't tried all the features like scan and fax, but I'll get to it.

Re: New Build
I'm not a total newbee. I've been messing with Linux stuff for a little while. I started messing with Fedora at Core 7. When F10 came out I really started messing around with it. I've got several Linux and Unix systems on VB. I've just started trying out Debian. I even have Clark Connect installed and will get that going. (Don't try to hack into my network until I have some more time with it ). So, I've messed with Mint, Ubuntu and Kbuntu, Puppy and OpenSolaris and Solaris. I even have Zonbu on a VM. Now that doesn't mean I know very much. It just means I like to mess around.

Re: New Build
So, I just got done resetting my PIII build to the same source list that is on my VB. I used aptitude to remove the old flash from the adobe web-site. Then I installed the flash from the backport packages. Seems to work pretty good. Fun stuff.
