How to know the minimum kernel of sarge, etch, lenny, squeez

#1 Post by frenchn00b »

Hello,

sarge is 2.4
etch can run 2.4.27
lenny is 2.6.18 minimum
squeeze 2.6.22 minimum

I guess. How to be sure and accurate about those kernels, based on our repositories.

Regarding the ISO files, r0 to r8 for instance, how to know which kernel they 'll make installed?

in Lenny & Squeeze you can just have it load an opmtiized kernel and that will eliminate support for things you don't have on your system. That is only availible if you do an "expert" install though.

It's not the software that's free; it's you.

than you :

minimum for sarge : 2.4.x
minimum for etch : 2.4.x and 2.6.x is running ok, even better

lenny: I am still usure if it is posisble to run a 2.4.X
it seems that 2.6.x is obliged from the installation, xperience, with it from apt-get

squeeze: No one knowws, but i read that .2.6.22 is minimum
but nothing is written about it;
