how do i update libc6

i need to install libace-5.6 as a pre requisite, but im having dependency issues with libc6.
when i try to install libace

Im using Debian Lenny, Version of libc6 on system is 2.3.6. Whwn i try to install libace 5.6.3 i get the following messages.

I guess i need to update my libc6 version.. but im unable to remove or update it..

when i ttry to install the package libc6_2.7-18_i386.deb

You say you are running Lenny? Post the output of apt-cache policy libc6. On my sid install it shows that stable should be running 2.7-18. Was this a fresh Lenny install?

a) you got etch repos activated. is there a reason?

as said: i'm not in the best condition, but till someone might say for sure you got a bit to think about / to try.

you need to decide if you want or don't want to make use of contrib and non-free software.
you should replace us with your country code, for me its de (for germany->deutschland). if you don't know better you may let it for now. the world won't fall into pieces by it. but keep in mind to do it later.
i dont know if you need the src-lines, again its your decision.
run apt-get update as root, try it again.
btw:if you run apt-get update, you get error-messages?

when editing such files back them up somewhere. i do it in /root, as there aint much more.

Oops.. i was wrong... im running etch.. and now i don get any error messages for apt-get update.. thanks a lot..
but the case is same with libc6.. and i guess libace is not installed..
