It should be possible to convert a Lenny install to a Mepis 8.5 one by adding the repositories and upgrading with aptitude...but may be quicker just to boot the LiveCD and see how you like it. You can save your /home folder when installing Mepis, but you need to enter your same user name and password when installing. I'd also delete the ~/.kde and ~/.local folders from your /home from the LiveCD before installing, since some KDE 3 settings still be mucking up KDE 4.
