Something is wrong "segmentation fault" on various app, help

#1 Post by fredcrs »

Ok so I formated my notebook Core 2 duo P8600 2.4Ghz 4GB RAM.
I was using Lenny before and still using it.
I formatted / and kept the /home in another ReiserFS partition, like I usually do..
I then upgraded my kernel to 2.6.32-2-amd64 because of some drivers I need ( I did that using the sid repo) I only installed the linux-image, the source and the headers using sid repo....then I commented it and updated aptitude...and installed lots of lenny software here I use.
I did that lots of times and never got a problem...but now I am having "segmentation fault" when I try to run some apps like Skype and all Java Decompilers I try (jd, jad)
So something is wrong..maybe a lib problem??
Thanks

I can't speak to your specific problem but some people (including me) are having trouble with linux-image-2.6.32-2-amd64. I have seen bug reports about 2.6.32 and segmentation faults. So, try an experiment. Install linux-image-2.6.30 and run that for long enough to know whether the kernel is the problem.

Ok, but I can see(on apt) a kernel named linux-image-2.6.30-bpo.2-amd64
what does the bpo mean?
Should I try?

Backport. That should be okay.
