Installing dictionaries-common wants to remove OOo

#1 Post by petrahele »

Hi,
I would like to localize my system in Czech so I wanted to install all necessary packages. However, when I wanted to install dictionaries common and also myspell, it wanted to completely remove Openoffice.

I have these repositories:
OOo is 3.1.1, repositories are ftp.cz.debian.org/debian, then also lenny backports - I made some screenshots:

third party software:

Someone told me that there is probably problem with versions and in repository is still only OOo 2.4 so it could be the reason. Is there any solution? I really need the spell checking and also the localization for my OOo.

thanks

The solution is to use the version of OpenOffice in the official repository.

this is not possible for me as the OOo 2.4 version does not work correctly with the Orca screen-reader which is necessary for me.

I cannot understand why there is no 3.x version of OOo in official repository yet. The 2.4 is a little bit old.

dictionaries-common depends on only three packages: http://packages.debian.org/lenny/dictionaries-common

Lenny's myspell-cs has only one dependency with two options: http://packages.debian.org/lenny/myspell-cs-cz

Check the versions of these packagesavailable to your system using

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy packagename
Confer nadir's link above for the backported versions of OpenOffice. I also think you should paste the full aptitude output that you get when trying to install these packages. As a general rule, aptitude doesn't make bad decisions for no apparent reason.

Ok,
I hope I understood it correctly. I used that commands in Terminator and got this for dictionaries common (I added english translations in "/"):

Code: Select all

dictionaries-common:
Instalovaná verze: (žádná) /installed version (none)/
  Kandidát: 0.98.12 /candidate/
  Tabulka verzí: /table of versions/
     1.0.0~bpo50+1 0
          1 http://www.backports.org lenny-backports/main Packages
     0.98.12 0
        500 http://ftp.cz.debian.org lenny/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
PSYCHO-HP550:/home/psychopetra#
and for myspell:

Code: Select all

PSYCHO-HP550:/home/psychopetra# apt-cache policy myspell-cs-cz
myspell-cs-cz:
  Instalovaná verze: (žádná)
  Kandidát: 20040229-4.1
  Tabulka verzí:
     20040229-4.1 0
        500 http://ftp.cz.debian.org lenny/main Packages

Excuse me, could you give me an advice how to do this? I am not so advanced user and in fact I only know that aptitude exists and that it can be used instead synaptic.

See the aptitude man page, specifically the install section.

Ok,
so thanks to afixx I finally solved the problem.

He suggested me to use:

Code: Select all

apt-get -t lenny-backports install openoffice.org-l10n-cs
to install Czech locales in OOo

and:

Code: Select all

apt-get -t lenny-backports install openoffice.org-thesaurus-cs
then it was no problem to get myspell and other necessary things and also installing them via Synaptic was OK
