When loading root terminal in Lenny on a machine I literally put together with spare parts (Intel Celeron 2.53, 1.5g ram) I keep getting the following error.
"An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for gnome-terminal. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly."
When I click details I get
"Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)"
Everything I am reading from my Google searches is telling me that others with the same problem solved it with a clean install. I really dont want to do that. 1) that just seems like the lazy way out. How am I going to learn anything new if I clean install every time I encounter a problem. 2) I have put many hours into this install and would really hate to start all over.
I would also like to point out that my desktop background seems to have disappeared. Not sure if one thing has to do with the other but I believe it does...
