What Are The cmov Directories For?

Postby aecooper-uk » 2010-10-28 08:13

Hi all,

Hopefully a simple question. I have noticed these cmov directories under lib directories (under some arch specific directory). They seem to be filling up with copies of libraries. Is this to do with updates and old copies are moved to those directories to stop things crashing that are currently using the libs? If so does it periodically get cleaned? Having said that dpkg knows about the files under those directories so that seems to go against my theory.

Can someone explain please :-)

MTIA,

Tony.

Some libraries come in multiple versions(for example, libc6 has an i686-optimized one); cmov is just where they're placed so that they don't interfere if you're on a computer that can't make use of them.
