services-admin not working!

#1 Post by beexo »

Hello,

First time here.

I have just installed Debian 3.1R0 with kernel 2.6.

When I click on the menu item Services Admin, nothing happens. Why is this?

I have same problem.

From
Applications-DebianMenu-Apps-System-ServicesAdmin
I get
error
"Cannot launch entry
Details: Failed to execute child process "usr/bin/services-admin" (No such file or directory)"

From
Actions-RunApplication
I see that "services-admin" does not show up in the list of known applications.

From bash command line as root I get
bash: services-admin: command not found

If or when I find out, I will post here.
I will probably switch back to Mandrake if I can't solve it.

Services-admin was removed from Gnome 2.10 by the developers due to bugs. You can go back to using 2.08, or wait for the next Gnome version.

Thanks Bob

I occasionally see my router and hard drive lights flash when when I think they should be staying off. On other distros (having similar applications) I can see what services are running and narrow the causes down.

It does look like it could be a long wait for Debians services-admin to be fixed...
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgrepor ... t=unstable
which says...
==============
"Debian Bug report logs: package services-admin in unstable
No maintainer for services-admin. Please do not report new bugs against this package.
There is no record of the services-admin package, and no bugs have been filed against it."
==============
Earlier today I stumbled across some web pages that displayed the gui for this former application known as "services-admin". Although it appears to be a dead application that nobody wants to claim any affiliation or history with today, it still shows up in the Debian 3.1 menu.

I found a significant spike in recent Debian gripes here...

Looks like 3.1 will be a tough chew for green horns like me.
Heck, I registered almost 12 hours ago and still have no email for my account activation.

But thanks again for the info you provided!
