Recommendation for server with multiple NICs and MTUs

#1 Post by mabra »

Hello !
I've build a new fileserver around debian with zfs and samba.
The server servers other purposes in my LAN too, dhcp and VMs. So I have a complicated network situation. Additionally to existing VLANs (which are used using OpenVswitch), I want to use two NICs as bonded ports with MTU4000. This works basically, but I have not yet switched over the bond ports to use jumbo frames with MTU 4000. Everything I use currently, is bound to the bonded port (two nics). I have more nics available.

From experience, I know, that other computers will then start giving problems.
Is there a solution for this ? I just could use an additional interface for samba
and bind it to this. This is bad from the naming perspective.

I would like to know, how other have used something like this.

Thanks anyway,
Manfred
