Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless support

Postby Player2 » 2016-09-24 00:48

Good Afternoon

first let me take the time to thank everyone that post in this forum its been a great help to many including me, sadly I haven't been able to contribute to the forum since you guys are far more advance that I am.

I been using kali linux which is derivative of debian I am posting here since I havent had any luck in the kali forum and I am still in the need of help
I recently upgraded my laptop(msi gs43vr phantom pro-006) when I installed it in the new laptop I got an error saying that it could find network and wifi it said that it was missing the following drivers ath10k/cal-pci-0000:3e:00.0.bin, ath10k/qca6174/hw3.0/board-pci-168c:003e:1a56:1535.bin, ath10k/qca6174/hw3.0/firmware-5.bin.

I proceeded to install the os without networking support. after some hours of online searching I found some links which led me to download the the drivers from this page https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmwar ... 6174/hw3.0 I copied them to /lib/firmware/ath10k/ rebooted and both network and wifi wasnt still working. I tried using my TP-Link TL-WN722N and it didnt recognize it so far there is not way for me to connect to the Internet via the new laptop.

my question is, does kali linux support this hardware and how would I go about finding and installing the correct drivers

Here are my specs
Linux kali 4.3.0-kali1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.3.3-5kali4 (2016-01-13) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Ethernet controller [0200]: Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet Controller [1969:e0a1] (rev 10)
Network controller [0280]: Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter [168c:003e] (rev 32)

Thank you in advance

---- the forum since you guys are far more advance that I am.

If you are using "kali" I think you would be more advanced then most of
us here, ...
I been using kali linux which is derivative of debian I am posting here since I havent had any luck in the kali forum and I am still in the need of help

It is a "derivative", but it is not Debian, why couldn't they help you ?
They do have this:
http://docs.kali.org/introduction/should-i-use-kali-linux
Is Kali Linux Right For You?

As the distribution’s developers, you might expect us to recommend that everyone should be using Kali Linux. The fact of the matter is, however, that Kali is a Linux distribution specifically geared towards professional penetration testers and security specialists, and given its unique nature, it is NOT a recommended distribution if you’re unfamiliar with Linux or are looking for a general-purpose Linux desktop distribution for development, web design, gaming, etc.
Even for experienced Linux users, Kali can pose some challenges. Although Kali is an open source project, it’s not a wide-open source project, for reasons of security. The development team is small and trusted, packages in the repositories are signed both by the individual committer and the team, and — importantly — the set of upstream repositories from which updates and new packages are drawn is very small. Adding repositories to your software sources which have not been tested by the Kali Linux development team is a good way to cause problems on your system.

As you can see, it says:
Even for experienced Linux users, Kali can pose some challenges

I don't know any thing about Kali, it seems to me like the best place to get help
with it would be :https://forums.kali.org/

my question is, does kali linux support this hardware and how would I go about finding and installing the correct drivers

This is Debian User Forums,
How would we know what kali linux supports or doesn't support ?
Did you try any searches ?
Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless support on Kali linux

One hit , of many, it isn't kali specificy, but it is "linux",..and one guy says they fixed
the problem.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=208874

It might work, I mean Kali Linux is also a derivative of linux,..

There is also this,
https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/MSI/GS40/stretch

What is the output if you run 'lspci' ?
Code: Select all
lspci

More details on the hardware will help, some of the newest hardware
is not supported yet, if you are not using the most recent versions
of Debian, and those are still "testing", Still in Development, ...
I do not know what version of Debian , kali is based on either,...
Show us the output of :
Code: Select all
$ lsb_release -a

as well.
and
Code: Select all
 uname -a
