ufw: To continue type in the phrase 'Yes, do as I say!'

#1 Post by 2trax »

Hello fellow Debian users,

I'm having a bit of trouble installing the 'unomplicated fire wall' (ufw) package, and get the following warning:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
colord hplip init libpam-systemd policykit-1 printer-driver-postscript-hp
systemd systemd-sysv
The following NEW packages will be installed:
ufw
WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed.
This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing!
init systemd-sysv (due to init)
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 8 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 138 kB of archives.
After this operation, 12.0 MB disk space will be freed.
You are about to do something potentially harmful.
To continue type in the phrase 'Yes, do as I say!'

Is there a problem with ufw and systemd? Does it only play well on upstart based installs?

BTW I'm running Jessie as far as I can work out - the below are in my sources.list:

deb http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian/ jessie main
deb-src http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian/ jessie main

# jessie-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian/ jessie-updates main
deb-src http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian/ jessie-updates main

#deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free

# Security
deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free

deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free

Thanks,

Did you install something from testing at one point?

Hmm. Probably.

But that's a source repository, and I'm 99.9% certain that I've not compiled any packages from source on this particular machine. Could it still be causing a conflict? Easy enough to check I guess, will let you know!

Nope, it's not that - I removed that line from sources.list, updated apt and tried to install ufw again with exactly the same results.

there's also one testing repo that is NOT commented out.

fwiw, i have ufw on my jessie install and never had to uninstall systemd.

i strongly suspect there is some sources mixing involved here; if not now, then in the past.

also, did you run apt-get update and apt-get upgrade?

What version of ufw and iptables does your system see as available?

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy ufw iptables
This is suspicious because it does not conflict with systemd or systemd-shim.

Your thread title could be made more clear, too--something along the lines of "ufw install want to remove my init system!"
