[SOLVED]Synaptics Touchpad won't use touch-click ect.

Postby Number3124 » 2017-11-20 06:40

It's always something with every new version of Debian on this laptop. This time it's my touchpad. It won't/I can't figure out how to make it let me use touch and multitouch clicks this time (when you can tap your finger anywhere on the touchpad to activate a mouse click instead of clicking the control area at the bottom of the pad). I'm using Debian 9.2.0 with Kernel Linux 4.9.0-4-amd64 x86_64 and MATE 1.16.2. I have a SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad.

If you need anymore information I either forgot to include it because I'm slightly frustrated or didn't know how to get it/didn't realize you'd need it.

Thanks in advance!

I'm having the exact same issue here! The wiki says the following for debian 9:

"In most cases, make sure you have the xserver-xorg-input-libinput package installed, and not the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package."

I'll see if that works later because I'm not able to do it now, but feel free to get back to me earlier ^^

I'm wondering if it isn't because MATE uses a different GUI application than GNOME?

Also, as an addendum, everything else about it still works including two finger scrolling.

In GNOME and KDE there is a graphical tool to enable "tap to click". In GNOME, it is under "Mouse and Touchpad" settings, don't know where in KDE.

In other DEs, you can use the following:

LXDE doesn't have the option to enable tap-to-click so I'll follow what is in that wiki article. Thanks for the link :)

Thanks a lot. I'd been through that article once. I guess I must have skipped that section by mistake.
