SOLVED Debian 9 Stretch + Cinnamon logon: remember last user

#1 Post by delpher »

Hello.
Please help me with Debian 9 Stretch + Cinnamon logon: how can it to remember last user?
Now my parents have to type every time their username, what is annoying for them :(

I not prefer this way, but maybe there is the other way with auto logon (user+password)?

If you are using lightdm (which is default when you install cinnamon on Debian). You will need to open a terminal and edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.

You will then need to find and uncomment the line.

Code: Select all

#greeter-hide-users=false

Lightdm should then display a drop down of users displaying the last user that logged in.

Ardouos wrote:/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.

Code: Select all

greeter-hide-users=true
It was not good idea :)
lightdm was several times with "Failed" status at startup log and the DE (Cinnamon) was not started at all (just usual console).
Maybe I need to edit something another at this lightdm.conf file?
Where can I find the setting to choose users at Cinnamon logon screen like f.e. at Linux Mint?
Screenshot, how it is in Debian: http://ibb.co/m0494b

Sorry, I meant just uncomment the line. You did not need to change it to "true". So ignore that part.

This is what my file looks like:

Thank you!
The issue is solved.

Code: Select all

cat /etc/X11/default-display-manager #Find out of display manager
stdout:

Code: Select all

/usr/sbin/lightdm
So according to https://wiki.debian.org/LightDM
I've changed the file:

Code: Select all

sudo mcedit /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/01_debian.conf
with this

Code: Select all

[Seat:*]
greeter-hide-users=false
