Cant get custom BeagleBone Black board to boot Linux

#1 Post by mryyan6 »

Hi all,

I am working on a project where we are using a custom board that is based on the BeagleBone Black to boot. The custom board has removed most of the peripherals but left the most main hardware on the board. I am trying to flash the eMMC via a SD card but have been unable to get the board up and running. The board will go through the boot process and then keep restarting instead of launching the kernel. I have tried multiple images from https://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack_Debian but none seem to work. Below is the serial output. Any help or insight on how to fix this would be appreciated!

Re: Cant get custom BeagleBone Black board to boot Linux

#2 Post by Capitain_Jack »

Look, I'll be clear, I don't know this type of computer, but I guess I have one guess.

As it starts, try to boot from internal memory, but nothing is still installed (I guess):

Code: Select all

========================================
Checking for Valid bbb-eeprom header
==> Invalid EEPROM header detected
===> Writing header to EEPROM
0+1 records in
0+1 records out
12 bytes (12 B) copied, 0.00381363 s, 3.1 kB/s
===> eeprom check: [ÿÿÿ]
========================================
Failed to read reboot parameter file: No such file or directory[ 31.254290] musb-hdrc musb-hdrc.1.auto: remove, state 4
The boot is complaining about a driver, for me, the termination looks like "High Speed MMC".

Code: Select all

No match for driver 'omap_hsmmc'
No match for driver 'omap_hsmmc'
Here you can see that you need the mentioned driver, as the device is omap mmc:

Code: Select all

MMC:   OMAP SD/MMC: 0, OMAP SD/MMC: 1
Some errors occur (or the lack of the driver, or it can be damaged memory card)

Code: Select all

mmc0 is current device
SD/MMC found on device 0
** Bad device 0:2 0x82000000 **
** Bad device 0:2 0x82000000 **
switch to partitions #0, OK
mmc0 is current device
Scanning mmc 0:1...
Again complains about missing driver:

Code: Select all

No match for driver 'omap_hsmmc'
No match for driver 'omap_hsmmc'
Some drivers were not found
Than, I think, in this part this driver lack is making difference:

Code: Select all

But I guess the lack of the driver didn't allowed:

Code: Select all

Failed to read reboot parameter file: No such file or directory[ 31.195858] musb-hdrc musb-hdrc.1.auto: remove, state 4

Rebooting.

[   31.212347] musb-hdrc musb-hdrc.1.auto: USB bus 1 deregistered

So to me either is the missing driver or the memory card is malfunctioning.

Re: Cant get custom BeagleBone Black board to boot Linux

#3 Post by debiman »

i don't know anything about this particular hardware either, except it's ARM based...

anyhow:
mryyan6 wrote:custom board that is based on the BeagleBone Black to boot.
we don't really know anything about these customisations...

and
I have tried multiple images from https://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack_Debian but none seem to work.
shouldn't you be looking here: http://beagleboard.org/latest-images instead?
they also have a wiki, forums etc....
