How to start open-vm-tools (OVT) on Deb8

#1 Post by Legolas1309 »

Hi, my system Software is deb8.
-- My goal: Run win-software on open-vm-tools and win7 or older (specially Sibelius 6 (note&score edit program) and Photoscore 6 (note&score scan program), which do not run on wine.
-- What I did:
- I have a complete empty SSD harddisk (220 GB) availible for win7 and win programs.
- I installed open-vm-tools and open-vm-tools-desktop via synaptic. No error reported.
- I entered as user "vmtoolsd -v" : Reported answer:
VMware Tools daemon, version 9.4.6.33107 (build-1770165)
-- Problem / Question:
- Is OVT installed properly or do I have to run an installation procedure ?
- How do I start OVT, to see a window, where I can install win7 or an image of it ? I didnot find a "switch" or instruction to do so.
- All the internet reports I found, didnot describe anything helpful. I fear there are some OVT fundamentals, which I did not understand up to now. This is my first aproach to OVT.
- Does anybody know perhaps a step for step instruction for installing win7 on OVT in Deb8 or something like "OVT manual for dummies" ?
Thanks for support

so, you need to look at tutorials for vmware:
