Where is writer ?
Re: Where is writer ?
I think no...did you change any apt-get preferences? (--no-install-recommends or such?)
I think installing Libreoffice suite its ok... I should install calc etc.. manually ? Why whats up this ?
Regards and thx.
Re: Where is writer ?
i think you messed up your system good.
these problems just keep piling up with you (look at threads started by awachens).
since you don't really know what you did to your system, there's also no way to fix it.
i suggest a reinstall.
if you like XFCE, why not try Xubuntu?
and be more careful in the future.
linux has more freedom, but that also means more responsibility.

Re: Where is writer ?
Hey, what about our highly-rated Debian XFCE derivative, MX 17, instead of Xubuntu? There's also some others that are very good and direct derivatives, such as SolydXK or Sparky Linux. No need to go to the purple side...

Re: Where is writer ?
My 6 year old granddaughter is using the older MX-16 with XFCE , I also
recommend that over Xubuntu, or Ubuntu.

Re: Where is writer ?
MX 17 is so lauded that I thought I'd take a look at it. As with all distros I like to look at a live-CD. It's to big for that so I tried a live-USB. That boots to Grub; there's no menu. When I tab I get several lines of options, none of which make any sense to me; still no menu. Sorry, Steve but I have to give MX a pass.stevepusser wrote:Hey, what about our highly-rated Debian XFCE derivative, MX 17 . . .
Re: Where is writer ?
OP needs something point-and-clicky, with minimum risk of self-inflicted damage (no pointed sticks, not even fresh fruit) and a maximum of considerate support following a strict regimen of clearly defined no-no's.stevepusser wrote:Hey, what about our highly-rated Debian XFCE derivative, MX 17, instead of Xubuntu? i doubt it will help though, regardless of the distro.
OP has learned about the freedom of Linux, but not about the responsibility.
i predict several more broken installs.
