Hanging Boot (ACPI Issue?)

Hi all,

I've been having some trouble booting and was hoping someone could help out. I've been trying to get an HP Compaq nc6320 up and running and have tried installing several GNU/Linux distributions. (Have used Ubuntu in the past, but want to learn more.) So far, Debian Stretch seems to work best, but I keep having the same hanging boot problem.

The machine starts booting, then eventually sends up the error message:

This is where it usually hangs. Sometimes it goes a bit further and throws the following:

[7.996001] Kernel panic - not syncing: Timeout: Not all CPUs entered broadcast exception handler
[7.996001] Shutting down cpus with NMI


If I keep trying to boot, it eventually boots up.

My suspicion is that it's an issue with the wifi card or ethernet adapter. When installing I had to manually add the iwl3945 and tigon3 firmware. That helped, but did not completely solve the problem (I couldn't even boot a live CD prior to, though an old Damn Small Linux distro booted wonderfully).

I have also tried adding ACPI=off to GRUB, but it doesn't seem to help.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or any suggestions where I should look to learn more about what's going on?

Can you disable these in the bios? That would be a good test.
