switching from nvidia gts250 to nvidia gtx1050

#1 Post by obaino »

I have debian 9 running smoothly on my pc with an nvidia gts 250 graphics card which I am about to upgrade to an nvidia gtx 1050

Could you please tell me which are the steps to follow once I install the new card?

I guess I will have to log in to console, completely remove the nvidia drivers for gts250 and install the ones for gtx1050.

so I'll have to
apt purge nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver

and then
apt install nvidia-driver

and finally reboot?

Any other thoughts suggestions?

You will need the driver from backports.

Thx for your reply.
in the debian nvidia page it doesn't mention anyghing about backports for Stretch.
https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsD ... ion_375.66

May be you could point me to another page for directions?

I found out that backports use 384.111 instead of 375.66.
Is this the reason you're suggesting it?

So after adding them in my sources.list I'll have to:
apt -t stretch-backports install nvidia-driver

Sorry if I sound too analytic but I have no much experience...
