Buster has no FreeCAD Repository.

#1 Post by Aaaapestaart »

I just tried to install FreeCAD with apt, but there is no repository for FreeCAD in Buster.

If I look at this page:
https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=freecad
I see Freecad packages for Sid, Stretch, Jessy & Wheezy, but not for Buster.
FreeCAD V0.17 has been released on 2018-04-06 and the repositories still seem to point to an older FreeCAD version.
https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Release_notes_0.17
So it may be better to wait a few days before installing FreeCAD, but completely missing repositories for Buster seems strange.

Can anyone enlighten my day?

And this is why Sid is more recommended if you want/need to run more updated software in Debian. Testing has and will block the migration of certain packages if they don't meet requirements. That blockade can last for up to a month(s).

But Stable should be enough for 90% of real productivity work. Yes, you really don't need that version 1.xx9 of package A that is in Testing.
For up-to-date software for Stable, look to flatpaks or Debian backports when available.
