alien not replicating symbolic links

Postby sptiley23 » 2018-05-08 15:35

I have used alien to convert a .rpm package to a .deb. This works great, but in my rpm, there is a symbolic link for a directory. This is not replicated. the rpm shows the link when you do an rpm -qlvp. There is no mention of the link name in the .deb package when you do a dpkg -c.
Is there a way to make alien replicate the links, or is this just not supported?
Thanks in advance for any information.

Solved!

I used dpkg-deb to extract the .deb result and tried to create the soft links in the extracted tree. It would not let me. "Operation not permitted".
Finally realised I was working on a FAT partitioned sd card. Moved to a linux partition. alien replicated the links in the .deb package!
