Apache 2.4.27

Hello All,

I am currently running Debian Stretch on a server and my sysadmin is insisting that I upgrade Apache 2.4.25 to 2.4.27.

Can anyone advise on the best way to do this? I've tried adding an experimental repo and upgrading that way, but no joy.

I'm gonna be the guy to say that if you want a later version of apache (or package X), then Debian isn't the right choice. To see why this is, you must understand how Debian deals with packaging and security issues. Debian values stability over new features, so software is frozen near the end of development and remains the same version until that release becomes EOL*. This means that very little to no changes are made and software should "just work" and continue working for a long time.



*with some excepts e.g. Firefox.

If by "experimental" you mean "Debian testing" or "SID", that is NOT a good idea.

If the "sysadmin" is qualified to be a System Administrator, they should know about these things, and should know how to do the things they "insist" on, and also know what is not a good idea. But that would be another topic.

The best way to run a Debian server, or system is to use the repo intended for that version of Debian, and use the package version that is intended for that version.
There might be some Apache versions that are newer in the backports, seems like I remember seeing a similar question on this ,and someone did say there is a newer version in the backports repo. Later when I have more time I will do a search for you and see if I can find the thread.
