How to connect my wireless printer ? (HP Envy 4500)

#1 Post by elton-w »

DEVICE; HP Envy 4500 connected to my home network
I am very new to Debian, so a friend installed the latest stable version for me. I'm more familiar with Mint Linux.
Today, I wanted to print something, and realised that I don't have the printer set up. I have searched in the Administration and Preferences section, but cannot find the applet to add a printer. I can only find references to USB connected printing in the Help section.

What am I missing or need to do to connect the printer to my Debian machine?

TIA

respectfully,

hplip and hplip-gui, then use the HP Device Manager:

(Best to use a static address for the printer- I wasn't in the above screenshot.)

[SOLVED] How to connect my wireless printer ? (HP Envy 4500)

I verified that CUPS was already installed. Then using synaptic, I installed hplip, hplip-gui, and system-config-printer. Thereafter the option Print /settings showed up in the Administrator section. I now have the HP Envy installed via the network. Also HPLIP Fax and HP Toolbox are present in the menus.

Thank you all for your help.
