I also removed the 4.17.7 kernel backport from that repo, since it's now made it into stretch-backports. Ndiswrapper-dkms, broadcom-sta-dkms, virtualbox-dkms, and nvidia-kernel-dkms from stretch-backports all successfully build with this new kernel. Any firmware packages and intel-microcode should also be updated to the backports version.
If you're happy with your present kernel, there is little reason to upgrade unless you discover the new kernel has better power management, wi-fi drivers, or allows your machine to suspend or hibernate more successfully. I do know that this kernel does report all hatches are battened down when I run the backports spectre-meltdown-checker script.
Scheduled Maintenance: We are aware of an issue with Google, AOL, and Yahoo services as email providers which are blocking new registrations. We are trying to fix the issue and we have several internal and external support tickets in process to resolve the issue. Please see: viewtopic.php?t=158230
