GDebi gui installer

Postby sujitnag » 2018-09-17 17:48

GDebi GUI installer is not asking root/ superuser permission before installing any software.

I want to restrict GDebi to ask for permission. How can I do that please?

I use Debian 9.5 OS.

If you have previously used root or sudo in your session, it may be retaining the permission for a period of time. No doubt there's a way to disable that, which a web search should turn up easily.

interesting problem.
iirc, there's a difference between using pkexec and using sudo.
first of all, you need to find out with which command gdebi is being launched.

I just checked, my impression was gdebi does bypass permissions somehow. So I added it to my base vm image for this reason, to easlily add something for testing after I drag the deb to the vm desktop..

Indeed, a fresh boot with no passwords entered anytime, no continued sessions from any previously authorized things...

And it open up fine without a password. And a default menu entry:
Code: Select all
gdebi-gtk %f

i don't think sudo would be set up by default to allow nopasswd for gdebi, so it must be pkexec. i guess. or know of no third option.
